Lawmakers and regulators in Georgia, South Carolina and Florida who approved plans for a dozen nuclear reactors said on Tuesday the plants will offer the cheapest and most reliable power. Those states have cleared the way for utilities to adjust rates, allowing them to recoup financing costs of new plants over a longer period before the plants become operational. Doing so lowers the overall cost of each new reactor and, ultimately, the price of electricity to the consumer.
