The University of Florida has partnered with Buckeye Technologies and Myriant Technologies to build a pilot-scale plant in Florida that will convert sugarcane bagasse, rice hulls and other feedstock into cellulosic ethanol using the university's biotech E. coli bacteria. The biorefinery is expected to start operations by late 2010 and generate as much as 400 gallons of cellulosic ethanol or 6,000 pounds of organic acid a day.
