Although recessions usually create short-term changes in spending, consumers this time around are less likely to return to their former shopping habits when good times come back, a study found. Three-quarters of consumers have changed their spending habits during the past year, and brand loyalty has suffered, with more consumers researching coupons and promotions on the Internet.

Progressive Grocer has compiled its third annual list of the top women in the grocery industry, which includes FMI President and CEO Leslie G. Sarasin. The 100 women will be honored Nov. 2 at Progressive Grocer's Corporate Social Responsibility Awards, during the GMA Merchandising, Sales and Marketing Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz.
