The federal economic-stimulus package will pay for repairs to roads and bridges in national forests, government officials say. The Forest Service will spend $228 million of the $1.15 billion it received on more than 100 projects aimed at improving land, safety and public health in 31 states. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack noted that rehabbing roads will improve water quality by reducing sediments in streams.
