Led by growth at Symantec, McAfee and Trend Micro, the market for security software products jumped 18.6% in 2008 to reach a total of $13.5 billion worldwide despite the economic downturn, according to a new report from market research firm Gartner. Much of the growth was due to increasing demand for appliance-based products, Gartner said, including those that handle e-mail security and Web gateways.
