Immediately following its filing for bankruptcy, General Motors asked the court to allow the company to drop seven business aircraft leases and a lease on the hangar where they are housed at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. The automaker tried to dump the leases after widespread criticism of CEOs for using the jets to fly to Washington, D.C., to ask for federal bailout money, but they were required to maintain some of the leases.
