A bipartisan bill on immigration reform could reach the floor of the Senate soon, according to Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. Schumer, who heads the Senate Judiciary subcommittee on immigration, believes the lawmakers can overhaul immigration laws this year. However, the White House has indicated that immigration reform may not be passed in 2009 and has urged lawmakers to first finish health care and climate change legislation.
