The Credit Card Fair Fee Act, which was introduced this week in the House, would enable retailers to negotiate with banks to reduce costs associated with credit card purchases, also known as interchange fees. "This bill simply enhances competition by allowing merchants to negotiate with the dominant banks for the terms and rates of the fees," House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers said.
Wal-Mart plans to hire 22,000 workers to fill positions at new stores this year. The positions will include corporate and store-level jobs. "During this difficult economic time, we're proud to be able to create quality jobs for thousands of Americans this year," a Wal-Mart executive said.
Giant Eagle has unveiled an ad campaign to show consumers in the Columbus, Ohio, area that they take saving money seriously with their Foodperks and Fuelperks savings programs. The ad agency Y&R shot ads for the campaign, which feature local residents talking about how they have saved money at the Pittsburgh-based grocery store.
Jack in the Box has decided to sell its Quick Stuff convenience stores in order to better focus on its Jack in the Box and Qdoba brands. Quick Stuff stores are built adjacent to full-size Jack in the Box restaurants and include a fuel station.
