Housing starts rose 17.2% in May, posting their third consecutive monthly increase. Observers note that an increase in construction of multi-family homes helped the increase. However, they also say that excessive housing inventory continues to crowd the market. Building permits and single-family housing starts also rose in May. "This adds to evidence that the housing market is no longer falling apart," Weiss Research analyst Mike Larson said.
