When the financial crisis is over, the P/C sector that remains will be 3% to 7% smaller in financial terms than the one we have today, according to Insurance Information Institute President Bob Hartwig. The recovery will be a slow and difficult process, Hartwig notes, with investment earnings continuing to flag for the foreseeable future. "We will not wake up one morning and say thank goodness this crisis is over. It will be slow. It will be uneven. It will be two steps forward and one step back. That's how recoveries are. And it will be a different experience in every state," he said.
