Scientists at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies said they successfully treated cells derived from patients with Fanconi anemia, a genetic disorder that can lead to diseases such as bone marrow failure and leukemia, by correcting a faulty gene and turning the cells into induced pluripotent stem cells. "In theory, we could transplant it into a human and cure the disease," the study's lead researcher said.
