Healthy innovations and functional snacks will drive growth in the confectionery industry for the next five years, according to the 2009 Confectionary Industry Trend Report. Twenty-three percent of the experts interviewed predicted the biggest potential market in the chocolate segment will be in nonedible products such as lotions, soaps, shampoos and anti-aging offerings.
The "Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!" animated children's show has inked cross-promotion deals with food companies including Minute Rice, OnCor Frozen Foods, The Joy Cone Co., Darling Clementines and Jolly Time Pop Corn. Rebates on DVDs are being offered by Minute Rice and OnCor, while Joy Cone is giving away plush toys to consumers who buy DVDs and Joy Cone products.
