A follow-up to the Detection of Ischemia in Asymptomatic Diabetics study found that asymptomatic Type 2 diabetic patients who show abnormal electrocardiogram results would benefit from SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging because of their worse prognosis compared with those patients who had normal ECG results. Patient screening in this group also will be cost-effective because of the higher disease prevalence, a researcher said.
