A decade of studies costing the government $2.5 billion failed to show that herbal and other alternative health remedies work, according to an Associated Press report. The studies, funded by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, found only one success, in ginger capsules for treating chemotherapy nausea. Studies testing echinacea for colds, ginkgo biloba for memory, glucosamine and chondroitin for arthritis and other remedies all failed to do better than a placebo pill.
