With more than half of Romanians giving candy as Christmas gifts this year, the nation's chocolate manufacturers say they expect to have made more than $37 million in sales during December. The $287 million Romanian chocolate market is dominated by Kraft Foods, Cadbury and Supreme Chocolate.
Cegis, the French group that manages a dozen shopping malls in Romania, says centres that have developed healthy client bases are seeing store traffic hold fairly steady. "Older shopping centres, such as Orhideea Constanta, Carrefour Ploiesti and Tom Constanta, have not undergone significant traffic declines and neither have they had retailers leaving, because they managed to create a loyal client base," said Sergiu Istrate, general manager of Cegis Imobiliare, the group's Romanian subsidiary.
Consuming coffee, even in high amounts, won't increase the risk of heart disease in men with Type 2 diabetes, a study found. Drinking four or more cups a day did not increase the risk of heart disease or death during the study period, even among smokers.
Three states were given a total of $1 million from the Food and Drug Administration to improve food and feed safety. Arkansas, Nebraska and Wisconsin will use the money to fund Food Emergency Response Network chemistry laboratories, supporting creation of a national system.
