Between now and 2013, it is entirely possible that U.S. real estate investment trusts will raise $582 billion to buy commercial property, said the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts. The group believes that the new capital will drive an acceleration in property acquisitions around the middle of 2010. "The public market is going to drive everything," said Michael Kirby, a REIT analyst with Green Street Advisors. "It will be the solution just as it was in the early '90s."
