Young children with autism spectrum disorders may not have bowel movement patterns that suggest other gastrointestinal issues, researchers in the U.K. said. Some older children with autism, however, did have bowel symptoms. "It is not clear whether these symptoms are due to dietary changes or abnormalities in intestinal function associated with autism. Further research is needed," said the lead scientist.
