The economic stimulus package is allowing construction firms to retain workers and save jobs, Associated General Contractors CEO Stephen Sandherr said. However, at this point, the industry needs more help before it can hire more workers. A recent AGC survey found that just 22% of participating companies had received contracts funded by the stimulus plan. Sandherr also said the stimulus package is falling short of its potential. "With construction unemployment at almost double the national rate, it is disappointing to see so many stimulus programs getting off to such a slow start," he said.
