An electric airplane called the e-Spyder took its first flight Sunday, and pilot/designer Tom Peghiny says the model should be available later this year at a price of roughly $24,000. Using two lithium polymer batteries, the e-Spyder took off several times on a single charge, reaching an altitude of 400 feet and speeds of 55 mph. Electric airplanes are expected to be a big draw at next week's AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis., where multiple models will be on display.
