After mechanics at American Airlines failed to find any obvious reasons for a lavatory fire that forced an emergency landing last month, federal arson investigators have been called in to examine the damaged Boeing 767. The June 9 flight from New York to Zurich landed in Halifax, Nova Scotia, after flight attendants used fire extinguishers to put out the lavatory blaze. There were no injuries in the incident, but the fire was considered suspicious, and both the National Transportation Safety Board and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are involved in the investigation.
