French officials released a preliminary report Thursday on the crash of Air France Flight 447, even as hopes fade for finding the flight recorders from the Airbus A330. At a press conference near Paris, a representative for the French air crash investigation agency provided a brief overview on what is known so far, based on data transmissions and wreckage recovered from the crash site. After explaining to reporters that it appears that the plane "did not break up or become destroyed in flight,", the representative noted, "Today we are very far from establishing the causes of the accident."
