A German research institute has set up a lab to study radio-frequency identification tags embedded in concrete during and after construction. InHaus 2 will study how RFIDs can be incorporated into building structures, and the goal of the lab is to focus on construction documentation, material tracking and energy efficiency. RFIDs can be used to control some functions within the building, such as dimming lights, as well as perform more mundane tasks such as monitoring air pressure in insulation panels.
