Traffic congestion has worsened in major urban areas in the U.S over the past decade, according to a recent study by the Texas Transportation Institute. Based on data available through 2007, the study found that drivers are spending 4.2 billion more hours in their cars than they did in the previous decade. The institute recommends adding more capacity to accommodate traffic. Growth areas will benefit from additional rail fleets, roads and highways, the report said.
