Instead of using proprietary picture archiving and communications software, hospitals slowly are turning to vendor-neutral technologies, such as those from EMC, IBM and Hewlett-Packard, for more flexibility in storing and accessing medical images, a report from KLAS Enterprises said. The report also said the fields of radiology, nuclear medicine and cardiology have already made headway in using digital imaging systems while oncology, endoscopy and pathology are being left behind.
