Scientists from the Energy and Environmental Research Center at the University of North Dakota have test-fired a rocket using a biofuel derived from canola and soybean oils. "We demonstrated that this fuel is a flying fuel and is 100% renewable and burns clean," says the EERC's associate director. "It would open up the possibility to run 100% renewable, clean planes." The center plans to construct a plant capable of producing 3 million gallons per year of the blended biofuel, known as Jet Propellant-8.
