Las Vegas has incentives to spur residents to pull up lawns and install water-wise landscaping. The Southern Nevada Water Authority will pay homeowners and businesses $1.50 per square foot of lawn replaced with desert plants, up to 5,000 square feet, and will pay $1 per square foot beyond that -- up to a total of $300,000. Other cities in California and Nevada have followed suit with similar rebate programs.
