A T-Mobile International-backed group said Tuesday that it had taken a major step in completing an alternative spec for providing voice service using the 4G-based Long-Term Evolution standard. The Voice over LTE via Generic Access, or VoLGA, Forum said it would be ready to submit its circuit-switch-over-packet system to 3GPP, the industry-standards group, by the close of this year. VoLGA's standard has yet to attract interest from other carriers.
