Gary Gensler, chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, said sentiment in Washington on the need for regulating the derivatives market has shifted from opposition noted in 2000, when restrictions were rejected. "We should have banged the table harder and pushed harder" for regulation then, Gensler said. The financial crisis has prompted broad political support for derivatives regulation, he said.
