The Army Corps of Engineers has threatened to terminate its financial agreement with a Mississippi levee board if the board does not offer a flood-control plan by Sept. 30. The Rankin-Hinds Pearl River Flood and Drainage Control District has proposed several plans that include one or more lakes, but the Corps said the lakes do not meet environmental standards. Corps project manager Gerry Walker said "the levee plan is really the only plan that meets our criteria."
