The Medilink Consulting Group pointed out two flaws in a study from the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission that has become the basis for several proposals to
change the utilization factor used in computing for CMS imaging reimbursement rates. The first error, the group said, concerns questions that asked how many hours equipment is operated per week but not the actual number of tests performed, and the second mistake was in not asking the job function of each respondent. Medilink says an appropriately designed study should be undertaken to determine if payment changes are needed.
