U.S. adults consume about 22 teaspoons of sugar a day -- way above the limit of nine teaspoons a day for men and six teaspoons a day for women recommended by the American Heart Association. Consumers should study their diets and determine "where the sources of added sugars are and think about how to cut back on that," a nutrition expert said.
Schakolad Chocolate Factory in Davie, Fla., is offering $1 chocolate treats through the end of the month. Specials available for a buck include chocolate-dipped pretzels and strawberries, and a chocolate flat-rose lollipop.
Irene Rosenfeld, CEO of Kraft Foods, said her greatest accomplishment so far has been "rewiring the organization" with the right people, structure and growth objectives. "As a consequence, we had a tremendous increase in our performance overall," she said.
Lawmakers in Oklahoma plan to study how to make healthful and locally grown foods more accessible to consumers through incentives to retailers. "Though I don't believe lawmakers can force people to become healthy overnight, I think we can make it easier for them, while helping to support our local farmers and producers," one legislator said.
