National Board Certified Teacher Anthony Cody contends that linking teacher pay to student performance on state tests is unfair and could ultimately harm student learning. In a blog post, Cody writes that teachers who are pressured to increase student scores could lobby to work only with the most-gifted students, unfairly penalizing those working with underperforming students. He adds that an increased focus on testing could lead more teachers to teach to the test.
