A Columbia University study has found a possible link between obsessive-compulsive disorder and throat infections -- suggesting that OCD could be contagious and not solely a psychological condition. Using mice, researchers found that antibodies triggered by about 10% of throat infections also affected areas of the brain controlling compulsion. One researcher said strep throat may be the cause of up to a third of OCD cases also involving autism or hyperactivity.
