The announcement earlier this week that Sears plans to close up to 120 U.S. namesake and Kmart stores won't affect locations in Canada, a spokesman said Thursday. Sears Canada is the U.S. retailer's Toronto-based subsidiary.
Toys R Us said Wednesday it will open fewer than the 600 pop-up stores it opened during the holidays last year, but said the exact number hasn't been determined yet. The chain, which operates Babies R Us and FAO Schwarz brands in addition to its namesake stores, filed for an $800 million IPO earlier this year but doesn't plan to go public until 2012.
The majority of customers globally would frequent a supermarket based on its environmental policies, according to a global study. Some 80% use grocery-based recycling facilities, and two-thirds would rather buy locally produced goods than imported products.
