Some medications raise the risk of falls for the elderly, according to results of a four-year study done in France. Researchers said seniors taking a long-acting benzodiazepine had a fall risk 1.4 times greater than those not taking the drug. Study data also showed a moderately increased risk of falling among those who regularly used psychotropic drugs, tranquilizers, muscle relaxants and anti-spasmodics.
