Researchers used MRI and MR spectroscopy to further understand peripheral arterial disease in patients with mild-to-moderate symptoms. The study showed that energy production in the calf muscle and blood flow in the leg -- two of the factors that contribute to leg pain in patients -- are not related to each other. "Showing that these two factors are not coupled may be important news for drug developers," a researcher said.
