More than 140,000 government contractors have enrolled in the E-Verify program, and some say it is easy to use it to confirm the legal status of their workers. Employers enrolled in the program have run 7 million queries so far, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Contractors and subcontractors on large federal projects will be required to use the program beginning next Tuesday. Meanwhile, some states also are requiring contractors to use E-Verify on state jobs.
