The Obama administration's plan to create a Consumer Financial Protection Agency is in jeopardy as a result of efforts by banks and trade associations. The Financial Services Roundtable is among a number of groups that have criticized the proposal and worked to limit the reach of the agency. As late as Wednesday, however, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said the agency was essential to the administration's plan to overhaul financial regulation.
