San Jose High Academy in California has made strides in improving the achievement of Latino students, increasing their average scores in the last two years by 72 points on the state's Academic Performance Index. The high school's Latino students averaged 673 points on the API test, compared with a 651 average statewide for Latino high-school students. Strategies at the school include principal meetings with at-risk students, tutoring and Saturday classes.
