Several economic indicators showed good news and signaled the recession's end may have arrived. U.S. factory output increased in August to 52.9 on the Institute for Supply Management index, the highest level in a year and a half. Pending sales of U.S. homes in July also hit their highest level in two years, according to the National Association of Realtors.
