Fourth- and fifth-grade students enrolled in a Pennsylvania academy program are receiving child-sized lab coats, and the fifth-graders have received laptops in an effort to get students to look and act like scientists. The program was started last year and is intended to foster student interest in math and science with expanded teaching on the subjects, hands-on activities and field trips. The laptops will enable students to file lab reports electronically and learn how to organize data with Microsoft Excel.
