The National Transportation Safety Board was expected to propose numerous operational and equipment changes on Tuesday for improving the safety of emergency medical helicopters. The hearing comes nearly seven months after an NTSB report highlighted safety problems in the industry. Proposed changes were expected to include additional training for at least some types of helicopters, expanded use of dedicated airways to help prevent obstructions in bad weather, and improved flight-data collection and weather forecasting.
