Educators in a Virginia district say an online writing tool called MyAccess helped some eighth-graders improve their writing test scores by 21% last year. Students choose from among 200 essay topics, the program grades the writing and lists strengths and weaknesses of the work, and the scoring aligns with state tests. Teachers say the program allows them to focus on the content of student writing and spend more time on classroom instruction.
