A three-judge panel in Ecuador has accepted Judge Juan Nunez's request to withdraw from presiding over a $27 billion pollution-cleanup case filed against Chevron. The oil company has accused Nunez of being involved in a bribery scheme to divert government contracts that were possible if he ruled against the company. "Given the misconduct and obvious bias on the part of Judge Nunez, it is clear that the court had to act," a Chevron spokesman said.
