A canal that was cut through the Everglades in the 1960s continues to route water 20 miles in the wrong direction. The South Florida Water Management District is expected to start work on a series of projects to overhaul the C-111 canal. The projects, however, have raised concerns among farmers who say the work could cause fields to flood. Meanwhile, the Army Corps of Engineers is behind on planning the projects, observers say.
