Verizon Communications on Monday asked a federal bankruptcy judge to stop the sale of Nortel Networks' enterprise unit to Avaya for $900 million, warning of "an almost immediate disruption" to U.S. government and military communications networks. Verizon said it wanted Avaya to stand behind the carrier's agreements with Nortel. The two sides have failed to reach a deal on the contracts, although Avaya insisted Monday that "we intend to fulfill the contract that is the subject of their filing."
