A federal judge said a recent evaluation of the special-education program in Washington, D.C., might allow for a reduction in federal oversight of the program during the coming year. Class-action lawsuits filed on behalf of students with special needs more than a decade ago prompted the oversight. According to the judge, the district is providing more timely resolutions of complaints about special-education services, but further improvements are needed.
