School administrators in Davenport, Iowa, have proposed integrating students with special needs more often into mainstream classrooms where they will be taught the same curriculum as their peers. The plan, which must be approved by the school board, also allows for a variable student-teacher ratio for special education that would be based on the students' individualized needs for support, technology and specialized instruction. The plan is intended to meet special-education guidelines established by the Iowa Department of Education.
