Educators and administrators are concerned about a future shortage of teachers in California. More than 27,000 teachers were laid off this spring in the state -- although many found new teaching positions -- and about 55,000 teachers are expected to retire in the next seven years. Despite the potential demand for educators, experts worry that job-security fears may color candidates against teaching. "Did I go into the wrong field? I definitely have second thoughts," said a laid-off California teacher.
