Demand for freight transport in the U.S. is gradually increasing, according to federal statistics. The Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics said the July Freight Transportation Services Index rose 1.6% from June levels. That's the largest monthly increase since January 2008. Meanwhile, Schneider Logistics Vice President Jack Gross expects surface transportation companies to post strong growth in 2011. However, other experts say recent upticks in the U.S. economy have not yet translated into a rebound in freight demand.
